Many people link their fitbit or apple watch or similar watch to myfitnesspal and track the calories they burn. The problem with this is you will never know how many calories you burn during exercise, your watch completely estimates this based on your heart rate and not much else.
The rate at which you burn calories depends on your height, weight, age, muscle mass, fat mass, gender. There are so many variables it’s almost impossible to know. You’d also be surprised at how little calories you actually burn.
The problem with linking to myfitnesspal is that the app then adds calories on to your daily calories, making you think you can eat more food!
If you’re trying to lose weight and are in a calorie deficit, your calories should account for your activity level e.g. sedentary, active, very active etc etc.
You’ll never out train your diet, if you’re eating more food than your body needs you will gain weight, if you eat less food than your body needs you will lose weight. Sounds simple but it can be difficult to do.
